Apparently I have this weird thing where parts of my life go dormant for a couple decades before reappearing. For instance, I quit competitive swimming in high school, took about 20-25 years off, then joined a masters swim team.
But more to the point, I studied religion in college, got a Master of Divinity degree, and started doctoral work in sociology of religion and Christian political thought. Then I dropped out of the doctoral program to go work in sports, wandered into another career, and settled down. Then in 2013, Pope Francis came on the scene, and that part of my life reawakened after an almost 20-year nap, and I started this blog to comment on some of the social commentary of the Pope.
Unfortunately for you, fair reader, focus is not my strength, so this blog started being home for all sorts of stuff that was too long or wonky for just a Facebook post. Reflections on family, faith, etc.
I don’t write from an academic audience. This is really as much a journal left open to the public as an actual writing project. So if you’re disappointed that there isn’t more research, detailed footnotes, etc., well, I feel your pain.
Thanks for reading anyway!
