I wrote Abandoning Temples because my friends encouraged me to write a book, and this is the book I had in me, apparently. Once I went through the trouble of writing and publishing a book, though, I realized that I’d really like people beyond my friends to buy it and read it. So I’m committed to getting the word out about it.
At the same time, I’m not a professional author, nor am I planning to be. I’m blessed to have a wonderful job that provides me with enough that, while more money would always be nice, I don’t absolutely need this book to pay my bills. With so much need in the world, it feels a little wrong to push people to buy my book knowing this.
To resolve this, I decided to donate all the proceeds – 100% – to someone who could use the money. As I write in the last part of Abandoning Temples, I’ve got a friend in Uganda named Patrick who has committed his life to caring for orphans and abandoned children in his country. If you buy the book, you’ll read a lot more about Patrick, but the short story is that I couldn’t think of anyone who could use the money from this book more than Patrick’s kids. There is an American 501(c)3, Ignite the Future, Inc., that is dedicated to supporting Patrick’s work, and they will receive whatever proceeds come from Abandoning Temples.
Of course, if you’d rather not buy the book, I’m sure Ignite the Future would welcome your donations as well – there are always more needs than resources. You can find Ignite the Future and learn more about Patrick here: https://ignitethefuture.blog/
